When my firstborn was around 4 weeks old, he began to cry... a lot. I was worried that he was hungry, tired (he didn't sleep long), or that he had colic. But nothing we tried to soothe him with seemed to work. The only times he ever found comfort was when nursing.
The problem was, this relief would only last for 20 minutes every 3 hours. We were at a loss for what to do. A well-meaning family told us to let the baby cry it out so as to help him develop stronger lungs and to prevent us from catering to the child's "demands". As first time parents, we didn't know what to do with all the advice we were hearing left and right; however, this one just didn't feel right.
Turns out, we should have followed our instincts all along and kept him close. Our little baby of 4 weeks was growing and badly needed our comforting.
