How to Become a Moderator

Pregly is looking for moderators!

Because the forum is growing we are in need of more volunteer moderators.

What are we looking for in a moderator?

Good communication skills

Good communication skills include decent spelling and grammar, the ability to clearly communicate what you mean to say, and the ability to maintain a respectable public image. It’s not a popularity contest, but the public’s perception of you and your typical behavior is often indicative of your social and communication skills.

A level head

You will need that to navigate the trenches. No, just kidding :-) But with all the hormones flying around, varying personal beliefs, and different styles of parenting, you will need a level head to deal with situations properly.

To keep you sane! It also often helps with deflecting high tension situations.

Respect of different opinions

Moderators should not be threatening, condescending, intimidating, or irritable. If moderation and dealing with new users is annoying to you, you shouldn’t be moderating. You should be able to come off as a friendly and approachable person. We are looking for those with the ability to apply moderation while still being friendly.

What do we expect?

We do not have any restrictions on age, race, sex, or any other personal attributes. However, we do expect you to:

  • Be able to moderate on a regular basis (at least a few hours every week);
  • Be able to enforce the rules, even when you don’t fully agree with them;
  • Be able to make a positive contribution to the Pregly forum.

How do you do that?
  • Welcome new members;
  • Foster a sense of community;
  • Participate in the forums, post discussions, and make comments;
  • Address problems and give warnings, even to friends or fellow moderators.
Do moderators get paid?

No! It's a volunteer position. What you will get is a warm fuzzy feeling inside, knowing your category is running smoothly and everybody is happy. If that’s not enough, you will also have access to the Living Room, a private corner on the forum for senior members; and of course, access to the Moderators Corner, another private room only available to moderators.

Are you interested?
